Tree Musketeers Supports Vote With Your Mission

VoteYourMission-logo-ENGLISHIf all of us who work and volunteer in Tree Musketeers voted, wouldn’t we have better policies and funding for our trees in particular and planet in general?

That’s why Tree Musketeers is proud to sign on to Vote with Your Mission, a nonpartisan voter initiative sponsored by the California Association of Nonprofits to get 100% of nonprofit staff and volunteers to vote.

Just think of what could happen if more people voted with the ideals and values that they bring to the nonprofit sector.  Just think of what is possible if we are able to galvanize the voting power of the nonprofit community.VWYMPoster2015.8x11.English

So, all of us involved with Tree Musketeers – volunteers, staff, and board – let’s do our part and vote on November 8.

Together, we can ensure that our voices – as citizens as well as participants of nonprofit organizations – are heard on Election Day.  For more information and to sign on, visit www.votewithyourmission.org.

New Youth Planting Supervisors and Adult Partners training

Each year TREE MUSKETEERS organizes several sessions to train new Youth Planting Supervisors and orient new Adult Partners.

Youth Planting Supervisors and Adult Partners are instrumental to the work of TREE MUSKETEERS: they ensure professional youth leadership in all our volunteer activities.

TREE MUSKETEERS has developed a team of young people – Youth Planting Supervisors (YPS) – who are trained, according to ISA guidelines, to lead proper tree planting and care events. These young leaders work alongside other kids and adults to expand our local Urban Forest. In addition to leading tree plantings, Youth Planting Supervisors serve as representatives and leaders of TREE MUSKETEERS and the environmental movement at tree care events, fairs and other events. Learn more and sign up here.

The Adult Partners Team (APT) is comprised of  adults of all ages to serve as mentors for youth volunteering at TREE MUSKETEERS. APT creates a solid support system for both at-risk and mainstream youth. APT members come from the residential and business communities, and volunteer for a comfortable level of participation. Options range from serving as an occasional adviser to committing to mentor one child for a longer term or working with a youth ordered by courts or schools to perform community service. Learn more and sign up here.

Help Tree Musketeers get matching funds from Microsoft!

WidgetStarting June 25th at 9am PST and for a few hours only, our “Growing Young Leaders and Trees” project on GlobalGiving will see all donations $10-1,000 matched 100% by Microsoft as part of their Youth Spark program. That means that if you give $25, we’ll get $50!

Please consider giving now, while there are still funds to distribute, to support our efforts to empower young environmental leaders and to care for our urban forest.

Tree Musketeers President Finalist in ACTrees’ Volunteer of the Year Award

Julian MDD2013Tree Musketeers is honored to announce that its President and Youth Manager Julian Poyourow was selected as a finalist for the Alliance for Community Trees 2013 Volunteer of the Year Award.  The award highlights inspirational volunteers in action who have made a contribution to urban forestry by improving community trees and the neighborhoods where they live.

“Volunteers are the heart of local tree nonprofits, providing the resources and energy that make tree planting and care possible,” says Carrie Gallagher, ACTrees Executive Director. “Julian Poyourow models the ideals of stewardship, giving, professionalism, and leadership.”

Since the day he walked into Tree Musketeers’ office in 2007 at age 11, Julian Poyourow has become indispensable to the organization. In six years, he has accumulated more than 1,000 hours of volunteering, including more than 200 hours for 2013 only. Going through LEAD Courses at Tree Musketeers and spending time caring for trees in afternoons and week-ends, Julian quickly took on a leadership role when becoming a Youth Manager and later a Board Member for the organization. He currently serves as its President.
